3 easy steps for reparations

  1. pay homage: Since… is an homage to ogogoro, a traditional west african spirit banned by british colonial authorities to protect their imports. post independence things didn’t change much. nigeria, and the rest of the continent, entered into a neocolonial period defined by nominal political independence and severely limited economic sovereignty.

  2. pay attention: the details are important. starting with rum, our tortured base spirit with its own colonial plantation history, we added a mysterious blend of spices and condiments from the continent to create a drink that’s spicy, bold, and assertive— with lingering floral and citrus notes. enjoy the slight dark chocolate funk of iru, some cinnamon sweetness and a tingling warmth from grains of paradise. this drink is confident enough to be sipped alone but not too shy to mix, it’s a delicious ambivert.

  3. pay up: a few decades post independence, the structural adjustment programme (SAP) was introduced to nigeria. SAP were a series of austerity policies mandated by the IMF purportedly to boost economic growth in the third world. SAP was a highpoint of the neocolonial agenda, shifting wealth from the public sphere to private and foreign businesses. import dependence, currency volatility and expanding unemployment have been the status quo since.
because we continue to suffer the devastating effects of SAP till this day, each 375ml bottle of Since… costs $37; the number of years since SAP was introduced to nigeria (in 1986). supplies are limited!
